Description: This Schumann was director of the famous Berliner Sing-Akademie and most of his compositions were for unaccompanied choir (one disc of such works came out on ASV in 2001 and another on Guild in 2007). But with his two piano trios of 1899 and 1916, we find ourselves in the lushly upholstered, late Romantic world of Brahms, Herzogenberg, Fuchs and other members of that circle of non-Wagnerians. And, even better, Schumann can create a tune with the best of them, even Raff. These are gorgeous works and you'll want to play them again right away; he wrote a cello sonata, two violin sonatas, two piano quintets and a piano quartet too. Will we get to hear any of them? Munich Piano Trio.
