GAETANO DONIZETTI (1797-1848): Nuits d’été à Pausilippe, Soirées d’autimne à l’Infrascata, Eterno amore e fè.
Catalogue Number: 11U031
Label: Brilliant Classics
Description: Pausillippe is an album of ariettas, romanzas, notturnos and duettinos published in 1836 and the texts are essentially simple portraits of things Italian: the boatman, the breath of the beloved, and the tower of Biasone (which ends with one of Donizetti’s most disarming tunes). The 1840 Soirés were intended as a sequel and the tone is more overtly ardent, not least in the Neapolitan barcarola “Me voglio fa ’na casa” which has been a popular recital item for many great singers. No texts but each of the 19 songs has its own paragraph in the notes. Letizia Calandra (soprano), Fausto Tenzi (tenor), Ilario Nicotra (piano).
