Description: A good deal of stylistic diversity in these pieces, all of which remain readily accessible and with at least some acknowledgement of tonal processes. Both Nørholm and his onetime student, Koch, provide classically proportioned works in which thorough musical argument is presented in a mainstream 20th century idiom with sometimes surprising concessions to romantic opulence. Gudmundsen-Holmgreen is as unpredictable and polystylistic as usual - his is the only piece that uses any kind of unconventional techniques, but it all turns out to be based on layered fragments of Schubert, wittily deconstructed and served up out of context. The Hegaard is the most tonal, with a suggestion of 'new tonality' with associations outside the concert hall, and Hvidtfelt's Divertimento couples flowing neo-baroque figuration and tonal harmony with an unsettling use of silences and abrupt gestures and contrasts - but not all that seriously; the piece remains entertainingly diverting. Trio Ismena.
