Description: Almost 20 years later, the Scriabin sound is still powerfully evident in the 1935-36 (rev. 1940) Second, whose sense of being caught in a swirling vortex of nightmare in its first movement and a dreamy, claustrophobic and threatening slow movement helped get it banned until 1964. Even the sprawling 46-minute Third (1951) with its Tchaikovskian Romanticism and its first utterly bright, sunny and optimistic movement in Lyatoshinsky's symphonies to date had its problems getting approved for performance (it was the finale, which had to be revised under pressure from authorities who were concerned about its epigraph "Peace will defeat war"). Ukrainian State Symphony Orchestra;  Theodore Kuchar. Original 1993 Marco Polo release.
