LUIGI BOCCHERINI (1743-1805): 6 String Quartets, Op. 8.

Description: These recordings by the San Francisco Bay Area-based period instrument group were apparently made in 1995 (although the booklet says 1955!) and never released. That's a shame since they're really good and there is only one other recording of the complete Op. 8, from 1995 on modern instruments. The quartets date from 1769 when Boccherini was at the very beginning of his Spanish period and, thus, not yet imbued with the Iberian flavor which would so characterize his mature period compositions. 2 CDs for the price of 1.
