GIAN FRANCESCO MALIPIERO (1882-1973): Fantasie di ogni giorno, Passacaglie, Concerti.
Catalogue Number: 10Q005
Description: World Premiere Recordings of the 1952 Passacaglie - a slow 11-minute and a fast 5-minute examples of the genre, showing Malipiero working in an unusually strict structure for him - and the half-hour long Concerti of 1931. The latter is an imaginative set of short concerto for members of the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, drum and double bass families, bracketed by short introduction and epilogue. The 1953 Fantasie are 20-minutes of strung-together musical thoughts which the composer claimed were thrown onto the page direct from months of sketch-books but which are a fascinating organic whole in reality. Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma; Francesco La Vecchia.
