FRIEDRICH KALKBRENNER (1785-1849): 3 Piano Sonatas, Op. 1.
Catalogue Number: 10P029
Reference: CDS 7661
Description: Recognized by most in his time as one of the three greatest pianists of his generation along with Hummel and Moscheles, Kalkbrenner also left behind almost 200 opus numbers of compositions, mostly for the piano (and you'll already know his concertos from Hyperion's Romantic Piano series). These sonatas were published in 1807 and are influenced by Haydn, Mozart and, mostly, Beethoven. There are several individual movements (the andante of No. 1 and its finale [try getting this one out of your head] and the andante non troppo of No. 3 which will have you hitting the "repeat" button immediately. Really entertaining stuff! Luigi Gerosa (piano).
