Description: Ghezzi was an Augustinian friar in the area around Siena whose compositional career was confined roughly to the period 1690-1707, apparently ceasing rather than struggle against the currents of modernity in that field. Still, even though limited by circumstance to basso continuo accompaniment (varied with different instruments in these recordings), Ghezzi was plainly alive to the lure of bel canto and was as capable as many in establishing a sense of drama - particularly in his Il David Trionfante. 4 CDs. No texts. Cappella Musicale di San Giacomo Maggiore in Bologna; Roberto Cascio.
