Description: Cooke was a pianist (student of Tobias Matthay), priest of the Church of England, poet, writer on theology, professor at the RAM for 34 years and, as you can see here, composer. The pieces recorded here range from the mighty, dark and densely written Gothic Prelude to witty miniatures like the department-store suite Bargain Basement and Cooke's style is hard to pin down in a few words but he can safely be described as being in the same general orbit as Bax, Ireland and Bowen. You'll certainly hope that there's more to come after you hear this 64 minutes worth of his music, all of which are World Premiere Recordings. Duncan Honeybourne (piano).
