Description: Marcel Pérès is the founder and director of Enemble Organum which records chant, Renaissance and medieval music for Harmonia Mundi. Here he is as mystic: This work was composed in 1978 after several years of contemplating the texts of the Egyptian "Book of the Dead". Plainly, words cannot easily convey his concept of producing music directly through the power of contemplation but such statements as "The geometry of sounds crafts the darkness, enunciates the architecture of light, sparks of silence, harmonics of light on the threshold of boundless time", aside from being ungrammatical, will let you know from where Pérès is coming. One might think of this as a pagan example of Messiaen's Catholic organ meditations although there's no direct influence. Marcel Pérès (organ of St. François, Lausanne).
