Description: Chiefly remembered for his zarzuelas, Breton also wrote a handful of instrumental chamber works. The trio (1887) sounds not in the least bit Spanish; its lyrical flow and ease of melody are reminiscent of Raff or Herzogenberg (without the Brahmsian flavor of the latter) and the "Spanish Pieces" of 1911 are little more distinctively Spanish, sounding again like the idealized concept of Iberian music in the mind of a northern European composer (the final piece, Polo Gitano, is the most identifiably "Spainsh"). LOM Piano Trio.
