Description: We offered Schneider’s most famous work, the oratorio Das Weltgericht three months ago (05U007) and now we get some orchestral works - a 32-minute symphony and three full-sized overtures, none under ten minutes. The symphony comes from the end of 1819 and is generally bright and optimistic with hints here and there of Haydn, Beethoven and Rossini; Mendelssohn even conducted it in 1840. The overtures, from 1818, 1822 and 1830, are delicious and the Op. 84 even ends with similar string figures to those Brahms would use 50 years later in his Academic Festival Overture!
