Description: This member of the famous banking family came into contact with many musical luminaries both as patron and student (she was one of the few students Chopin taught right up to his death) and she became a respected, well-published and prolific composer. What strikes you in this collection of songs is not so much a personal stamp, although she plainly had a remarkable command of the keyboard and her piano parts are as rich as the song melodies and often far more than just accompaniments. What Rothschild seems to do is to easily adopt the manner of the late 19th century French mélodie as easily as she inhabits the Beethoven-Schubert-Schumann-Brahms world of the German Lied. 2 CDs. German, French-English texts. Charlotte de Rothschild (soprano), Adrian Farmer (piano).
