Description: The Holst, notated by his fellow teachers at St. Paul's School, Vally Lasker and Nora Day, was discovered by John York of this piano duo and is recorded here for the first time, with all of the usual caveats: lack of orchestral sound but rhythmic and harmonic details hard to hear in an orchestra, etc. Bowen's suite (1919) has a Rachmaninovian Prelude, a modal Dance and a Nocturne with its own kind of Russian melodiousness. Too bad about the bleeding chunk of the Suite No. 2, though. Would have been nice to have it all... York2 (piano duo).
