Description: Romberg’s 1798 symphony stands out among “Turkish music” works of its time for not restricting the “Turkish military instruments” (piccolo, cymbal, triangle and bass drum) to a single movement but uses their effects in all four. Ho-hum for us these days but an exciting novelty to audiences at the end of the 18th century. Julia Schröder (violin), Collegium Musicum Basel; Kevin Griffiths.
