Description: The longest work here is the rather early (1892) Aus Jotunheim which deals in Norwegian folk tunes in a Delian or Grainger-like manner, befitting since all three were friend of the man whose wedding anniversary it was written for - Grieg. The outer movements of the 1900 op. 40 sonata are Brahmsian but Norwegian folk music infects the scherzo and, whether the 1921 Phantasie or the 1925 Triologica, all confirm Roentgen's ability to produce memorable melodies like a spring produces water. Atsuko Sahara (violin), John Lenehan (piano).
