Description: Overshadowed by his fame as the writer of the first musical dictionary and for his valuable collections of contemporary scores, Brossard's music has been quite neglected. This is the only CD available devoted entirely to him and contains two sacred works, a secular cantata and a sonata, all composed in the general period 1698-1713. On the cutting edge of his time stylistically, Brossard mixes German, French and Italian styles (Les gout reûnis) in the most up-to-date fashion and the sonata and cantata are among the first examples of their type by a French composer. Italian/Latin-English texts. Chantal Santon Jeffery, Eugénie Warnier (sopranos), Isabelle Druet (alto), Jeffrey Thompson (countertenor), Vincent Bouchot (tenor), Benoit Arnould (bass), La Rêveuse; Benjamin Perrot (theorbo).
