Description: This series began in 1995 and ended in 1996 - without the Fourth Symphony which was only found by the Krenek Institute (in the U.S.) in 2007.  Thus, a World Premiere Recording. The symphony comprises both tonal and atonal elements and the notes will warn you of individual themes being subjected to "constant modifications in interval structure and rhythm" but you will find a taut, dramatic argument that is easier to follow than, say, just about any of William Schuman's late symphonies. Commissioned by and premiered by Dmitri Mitropoulos in 1947. The Concerto Grosso is another matter entirely, dating from 1924 min Krenek's neo-classical period, when Stravinsky was the greatest influence on him. North German Radio Philharmonie Hannover; Alun Francis.
