Description: Dating from 1911 and 1918, the sonatas are fine examples of Weiner's grounding in Brahmsian Romanticism with just enough Hungarian folk flavor that you're never in doubt as to his nationality. Highly melodic and often highly rhythmic - especially dance rhythms - these works are technically accomplished, fastidiously constructed and impossible not to like. Needless to say, the 28 minutes of fillers bring Hungarian folk music to the fore - and the Fülep and Ney arrangements of piano originals were not on the 1996 Hungaroton recording of the other four pieces (no longer available). Hagai Shaham (violin), Arnon Erez (piano).
