Description: The Nocturnes, roughly seven minutes each, often deeply meditative or passionate, were originally works for cello and piano written around 1818 for the French cellist Duport. Viotti did his own transcription of the Sérénades which were originally for two violins and published around 1804. Ranging from five to eight movements, often quite short, they are full of thematic and affective experimentation, standing on the threshold of Romanticism. 2 CDs. Mario Carbotta (flute), Carlo Balzaretti (piano).
