Description: This 1744 opera seria was chosen to kick off the season at one of the two most important theatres in Venice and Terradellas used a libretto by Metastasio which was set over a hundred times. Perhaps his most significant mature work, it demonstrates his manner of blowing baroque subtlety into oblivion, building palpable excitement through all manner of scoring, rhythmic and harmonic ingenuity. 3 CDs.
