Description: More of Mattheson's works are becoming available now that we know that they were not lost in World War II as previously suspected - they were also plundered by the Soviets and ended up in Armenia (!). They were returned in 1998 and this is one of them: a 1724 oratorio in the brilliantly emotional and colorful operatic style (Mattheson used opera singers in his church works, scandalizing Hamburg's conservatives) which he brought to its height in the years 1715-28 when he was in charge of the Hamburg Cathedral.
