Description: These twelve works are "overtures" to oratorios written between 1718 and 1735. Their existence in manuscripts separated from the oratorios attests to their performance by themselves (dates exist in the manuscripts and show as many as a dozen performances for some after Caldara's death), so their performance here as stand-alone compositions has a history dating back almost to their creation.
