Description: Two Flemish flute concertos and, the most recent work (by the oldest composer!), one by their French teacher. Both Benoit (1864) and Waelput create symphonies with solo flute (and Waelput also uses a quartet of cellos and a solo violin at times in his 32-minute work of 1866) and both works immediately impress with memorable melodies and broad, romantic personalities which prove utterly winning all the way through. Fétis's concerto is from 1869 - the work of an 85-year-old - and is in the conservative, late Classical/early Romantic style of his youth. Gaby Pas-Van Riet (flute), Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra; Fabrice Bollon.
