Description: Collectors of this composer will probably want to have this spectacularly recorded new release since it offers the only recording of the Choros No. 8 besides the 23-year-old Marco Polo/Naxos version from Hong Kong. The plethora of Brazilian folk instruments can sometimes actually be heard here and the dynamic range is huge - important when the rhapsodic style of these works, which use a very large orchestra but often has its members playing in chamber-like small groups. Intimate, musing melody suddenly erupts into aural aggression; "Easy Listening" changes to Brazilian folk music changes to Stravinskian avant-garde changes to Hollywood film-score. Anything can happen and there's no firm structure you can follow. Great fun and great recording! São Paolo Symphony Orchestra; John Neschling.
