Description: This daughter of a Polish political refugee was born near Paris, studied at the Paris Conservatory and spent most of her adult life teaching at the Rennes Conservatory. Her fondness for monothematicism in the sonatas (the op. 28 published in 1905 and the other performed in 1927), employing a rich harmonic and figurative imagination in working these themes, and the rich texture of her piano parts (she was an excellent pianist) recall Franck and Fauré. The quartet is in the same style and gained a performance in 1927. From a Polish point of view, the notes call her “an excellent bridge between Ludomir Różycki and Alexandre Tansman ”.
