Description: The first disc here was released in 2010 (04L081) so, effectively you’re only paying for the new second one. The four concertos are three movement works lasting around a half hour, they also make use of Gregorian motifs and have references to various liturgical hymns and forms but these are conditioned, in addition, by their being composed between the Nazi invasion of Poland and 1941. Nowowiejski fled to Krakow from Warsaw and there are biographical elements in the First, along with music that pushes the edges of tonality, with unresolved harmonic tensions, dissonanaces and bitonality, none of which appeared in his pre-war compostions. 2 CDs for the price of 1. The couplings are short pieces suitable for liturgical use. Rudolf Innig (Sauer organ, Bremen Cathedral).
