Description: Józef was as gifted a pianist as his brother was a violinist but the majority of his compositions for the instrument were the brilliant, virtuosic and showy salon-style pieces which are offered in this 75-minute recital. Chopin is, of course, the main basis but Wieniawski also studied with Alkan and Liszt so his glittering romantic salon gems are pan-European in their influences and appeal. Standing somewhat apart from the rest is the big (23 minutes) Fantaisie, published in 1886, which has equal parts for both players and consists of four contrasting episodes. Valentina Seferinova, Venera Bojkova (piano[s]).
