Description: A marvelous program of Romantic Dutch violin sonatas, each occupying its own stylistic niche: Schlegel (1911) is forward-looking, taking Brahms via Reger as his starting-point while Buys (only a year earlier) looks backward to late Romanticism but with tasty elements of French Impressionism. van Eijken is much earlier and his time (1855) is when Schumann was working on his violin sonatas but this work has the youthful vigor of the young Schumann and Mendelssohn.
