Description: A distant relation of Bach, Walther spent his career from 1707 to his death in Weimar and helped transmit the north German organ tradition of Buxtehude, as well as the Italian styles of Vivaldi, Albinoni and others, to Bach, not least through their friendship when both were working at the Weimar court. There is an irresistible sunny and charming quality to much of his music, especially in his only original concerto but even in the choral preludes. Olivier Vernet (Ahrend organ in Porrentruy). 1998 release.
