Description: Schnabel’s 1919 sonata, once available on a 1998 Arte Nova release, is a 46-minute piece with a forbidding facade and high dissonance quotient while the Erdmann (1921), also atonal but more traditional in its melodic and formal aspects, is a bracing, four-movement work of only 18 minutes.
