Description: Coming to just under 6 hours, the majority of it with guitar accompaniment and the rest with harp or square piano or 1869 Érard (and, for some reason, two with a 2011 Yamaha!), this collection of 94 songs situates itself not just in the salons of the gentry and aristocracy but all the way up to Josephine Bonaparte (Spontini moved in rarified French circles). The notes are quite interesting and make one wish that we not only had texts and translations but also the dedications so we could see how many important people were being gladhanded by Spontini. Ah, well... 5 CDs. No texts.
