Description: A reconstruction of this children's pantomime, premiered in Berlin in 1922, appeared in 2002 on Capriccio and Weill's 22-minute suite which he called Quodlibet, Op. 9, was issued on cpo in 2006. But this is the first recording of the original score, which became possible when an old safe in the Sterling Memorial Library at Yale, opened in 2005, proved to contain (among much else) the hand-written orchestral parts which allowed the score to be reconstructed and published in 2008. There are 24 numbers which consist of slow and fast waltzes, various marches, a cancan, a foxtrot and a gavotte, which due to financial restrictions, Weill had to score for a small ensemble; he chose a flute, bassoon, string quartet, double bass, two percussionists and a piano. Light but fascininating stuff if you're a Weill fan. Arte Ensemble.
