Description: The deceptively simple-titled Lyric Pieces are the main work here - 36 minutes of meditations on Eller's own personal tragedy and sufferings after his Jewish wife was arrested on July 4, 1942 and "disappeared" by the Gestapo; tragedy and darkness predominate in these pieces written between August 1942 and January 1943. The other major work is the sonata of 1957-58, which, coming after Stalin's death, allowed Eller to become more objective, rational and personal. Sten Lassmann (piano).
