Description: Known in Poland as a critic and journalist, Brzezinski studied composition with Reger and his 1910 sonata is an interesting mixture of rather simple melodic ideas treated with Regerian textural complexity; these ideas include, in the outer movements, mazurka-like material often accompanied by drone basses. Szulc studied under both Noskowski and Massenet and his sonata (the published score is undated) often borders on light music such is the song-like (hints of operetta), serenade-like character of the melodies in his three fast movements. Irena Kalinowska-Grohs (violin), Barbara Pakura (piano).
