Description: Carvalho’s first composition after being appointed as court composer and teacher to the royal family of Portugal in 1778 was this serenata to a libretto by Metastasio adapted from the Orlando Furioso traditions. Even though it would not have been staged and acted out, it still carries all the hallmarks of opera seria and shows how up to date the somewhat out-of-the-way Portuguese court was at the time. 2 CDs.
