LEO FALL (1873-1925): The Rose of Stambul.
Catalogue Number: 04O085
Description: Fall is much less-known today than his contemporary Lehár, who also was a provincial Austrian who moved to Vienna and had great public success. The operetta recorded here (in English translation for this live recording from 2011), set in Ottoman Turkey, was premiered in 1916 and ran for 15 months with the usual elements of comedy, mistaken identity and obstacles to romance but with extra opportunities for cultural misunderstandings and exoticism. 2 CDs. Libretto available on-line. Kimberly McCord, Alison Kelly (sopranos), Erich Buchholz, Gerald Frantzen (tenors), Robert Morrissey (bass), Chicago Folks Operetta; John Frantzen.
