Description: Fans of tough stuff will eat up the atonal 34-minute, four-movement solo sonata No. 1 (a World Premiere Recording) of 1925, written at white heat while Krenek was in the throes of romantic passion for violinist Alma Moodie. The 1945 sonata is dodecaphonic, the 1948 solo sonata also (this one's only nine minutes long) but the 14 minute Triophantasie (1929) is not: it's a response to Schubert or, to put it better, an look at Schubert through lenses of the day, lyrical, pushing the boundaries of tonality but not breaking them. Johannes Kreisler Trio.
