Description: World premiere recordings of four selected piano pieces (from collections published in 1872 and 1876) which show a different side to the composer of big organ symphonies: brilliant, virtuosic show-pieces for performance at the salons Widor used to frequent. The six Italian melodies from 1877 and 1878, based on Tuscan and Neapolitan folk songs (and two setting texts by an Italian poet) are also first recordings. The 1881 violin sonata places the piano in the lead role in music both exquisite and often very virtuosic; hard to believe that the only other recording of this was on a Centaur disc back in 2000! No texts. Andreas Hartmann (violin), Ulrike Fulde (soprano), Irmtraut Friedrich (piano), Felix Friedrich (Schuke organ of Magdeburg Cathedral).
