JUDITH LANG ZAIMONT (b.1945): Sonata, Nocturne: La fin de siècle, A Calendar Set - 12 Virtuosic Preludes.

Description: The sonata is a bold, half-hour specimen of the genre, tonal and adhering to the conventions of the medium, but original and muscular, with a discursive first movement, a more lyrical and atmospheric slow movement and a quirky toccata-finale full of irregular changes of meter. The Nocturne is unabashedly neo-romantic, while the varied set of preludes illustrates the characteristics of the months of the year. The pieces form a strongly contrasted set, very tonal and pianistically idiomatic, atmospheric and appealing. Christopher Atzinger (piano).
