Description: All but the early (1913) Variations are jazz-inspired or -influenced pieces from 1923 (Partita) and 1926 (Suite) and the song an incongruously late transcription from 1937 when Schulhoff was working on the monumental socialist-inspired Symphonies Nos. 4 & 5. The Variations, at 21 minutes the longest work here, have a them with faint hints of French Impressionism but the variations are a catalogue of pianistic ingenuity certainly intended as a calling-card by this 19-year-old composer.
