Description: The two early works here, the first sonata (1918) and the Lyric Poem (1919-20) share influences from Debussy and Ravel in their modality and light chromaticism but the idiomatic violin writing is Goossens' own. The much bigger (32 min.) second sonata, dedicated to Paul Kochanski but also played more than once by Heifetz, is much more emotionally powerful, Goossens himself referring to its "lyrical intensity", a style it shares with the 1937 Romance. Robert Gibbs (violin), Gusztáv Fenyö (piano).
