Description: We know there's a 1998 Hyperion disc with Piers Lane which has the complete Études - the op. 52 group (1877) are tricky as anything in Liszt with the difficulties often exacerbated by prolonged repetition; from 1899, op. 111 has a dedication to a great virtuoso at the head of each etude and culminates in a toccata on themes from Saint-Saëns' fifth piano concerto; the left-hand etudes (1912) are neo-Classical, recreating old dance forms from harpsichord suites after the manner of Couperin and Rameau - but, as this is the first in a new complete piano edition, we offer it for completeness. Geoffrey Burleson (piano).
