Description: The scores here were almost all for the GPO - industrial films and documentaries - and were scored by the young composer in 1935-6. The later Soirées Musicales originated in the Post Office Savings Bank short The Tocher while three of the scores include settings of texts by W.H. Auden, the most ambitious and interesting to us, perhaps, Negroes, which covers the abolition of the slave trade and the economic development of the Caribbean. Detailed notes. Texts included.
