Description: Think of the clarinet solo in the prelude to Act III of La Forza del Destino. That and others in operas by Verdi and Rossini were written with Cavallini, first clarinet in the Scala orchestra, in mind. His caprices date from the 1840s (for space reasons, only 22 of the 30 could fit on one CD), and they range from pure technical exercises to operatic bel canto beauty and melodiousness.
