Description: The first of these trios was written in 1877 when the composer was acquiring his own voice while still glancing at the twin towers of Schumann and Brahms while the third, his last major chamber work, was finished in early 1890. The melodic warmth and virile robustness of its outer movements are set off by the solemn inwardness of the slow movement while the second movement Capriccio has Brahmsian touches that look forward to the symphonic Elegy for Brahms of 1897. The Partita is a six-part reworking of a suite from 1872-73 which mimics characteristics of the French baroque suite of dances. Leonore Piano Trio.
