Description: Peskin was one of two Jewish musicians who found shelter during Stalin’s Great Purge and the forced collectivization/famine of the mid 1930s by working for a Red Army balalaika orchestra (they also used some regular instruments). Peskin and the other one, a young trumpet player, were sick of the crappy quality of most of the works available for that instrument so the former wrote a series of original works for the latter, some of such difficulty that the performer only succeeded in playing them through hard work and constant practice. That trumpet player was Timofei Dokshitser. Great story and music which even trumpet-shy collectors may embrace because the piano parts are influenced by Scriabin, not mere accompaniments. Giuliano Sommerhalder (trumpet), Kasia Wieczorek (piano).
