Description: World premiere recording of this 1932 all-day work composed for a music school in the town of Plön. Related to Hindemith's series of Spielmusik, it is intended for young persons of all musical capabilities, from almost none to very adept. It begins with a Morgenmusik, a ten-minute piece for brass in the historical German tradition of "Tower Music"; next is a Tafelmusik in baroque simplicity and directness, played during lunch, followed by a 20-minute central cantata based on a 16th century text by Martin Agricola (with a short melodrama in its middle), and the whole work is wrapped up by a 35-minute Abendkonzert which opens with full orchestra and moves down to duets and then recorder trios (using 1930s "period" recorders) before a final, orchestral Quodlibet. Needless to say, very tonal and approachable and a must-have for all Hindemith collectors. German-English texts. Dietrich Henschel (baritone), David Reibel (speaker), Members of the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin, Marzahn-Hellersdorf Youth Symphony Orchestra, Ensembles of the Hans Werner Henze Music School, Berlin Radio Children's Choir and other Berlin Children's and Youth Choirs; Jobst Liebrecht.
