Description: Fitting right in with the series of Russian "war symphonies" on Northern Flowers, this coupling offers Harris' "war symphonies", from 1942 and 1944, both using his characteristic widely spaced intervals, notable horn and brass contributions, carfully paced rhythmic changes and graduated increases in instrumental density to create granitic climaxes, generally using a single idea developed across the breadth of movements. The 1941 Acceleration is a seven-minute work predating the U.S. entry into the war whose material Harris reused in the Gettysburg symphony. Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra; Marin Alsop.
