Description: These early compositions from 1957-60 (the weird opus number for No. 1 means that the 1957 original was revised [how, we're not told] in 1995) show the greatly talented young composer working in and beginning to break out of the expected influences: Prokofiev (throughout and especially in the ironic miniatures of Egosuite), Shostakovich, Hindemith and Bartók. Although the vinyl archival disc of the Second sonata is not of the finest quality, the manic quality of the fast movements and the abysses suggested in the slow movement might not be reproduceable in a studio by a modern pianist. Dinara Mazitova (piano), Boris Tishchenko (piano - Sonata No. 2. rec. live 1963).
